Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis

What does WPPD mean to you?

World Periodic Paralysis Day (WPPD) means bringing awareness of the disease to more people. People with the disease face so many barriers receiving a diagnosis and treatment. And sometimes they face disbelief from co-workers, friends, and families. It’s a hidden disability.

Tell Us Your Story:

Janine K. lives in Wisconsin, where she is a retired financial manager. Although she had lived with muscle weakness since childhood, she didn’t experience her first full-body paralysis episode until age 48. After receiving her Primary Periodic Paralysis (PPP) diagnosis, she realized that both her father and her grandfather had showed PPP symptoms. PPP had a significant impact on Janine’s life, contributing to her retirement from her job at age 49. Janine is part of the Xeris Pharmaceuticals® PPP MentorConnect™ Program.
